National Honey Bee Day 2013
Today is National Honey Bee Day. As it has been almost a month since I have done an inspection of the hives, I thought I would take a quick look at what the hives have been doing.
Weather has been very dry the past couple weeks, but pollen seems to be available as the bees where hauling it in. All hives had brood at various stages, and had honey and pollen stores.
I started the inspection by cracking a recent swarm nuc. I had not put on my veil or long sleeve shirt yet... but found the bees to be unreactive. The rest of the hive inspections were the same (even dropping a frame of bees didn't result in any pokes!)
Warre#2 is full of honey, but I don't have the time to take it right now. I might check back in a couple weeks.
The only interesting picture I caught was some of the bees showing their necks in nuc#2.
